Atlanta, GA – Carl Bean Men’s Health and Wellness Center (CBMHWC), a leading healthcare organization dedicated to serving the unique needs of Black gay men and LGBTQIA+ communities in Atlanta, proudly announces the appointment of Dewayne Crowder as its new Executive Director. Dewayne brings a wealth of experience in healthcare leadership and social services, along with a deep passion for advancing health equity and dismantling healthcare barriers for marginalized populations.
A native of Memphis, Dewayne holds a Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration from the University of Memphis and a Master’s in Social Work from Walden University. Since joining CBMHWC in June 2024, Dewayne has already made significant strides in expanding the organization’s services and outreach. His leadership has been instrumental in enhancing client services, including the expansion of status-neutral transitional housing for LGBTQIA+ individuals living with HIV and other vulnerable populations. Dewayne has also overseen the integration of comprehensive medical services, mental health support, and peer navigation linked to Ryan White services, ensuring equitable access to care for all clients.
Dewayne’s innovative approach to healthcare delivery led to the introduction of Immediate Access Treatment Protocols at CBMHWC. These protocols ensure prompt access to HIV and STI testing, treatment, and care—eliminating delays and reducing barriers regardless of insurance status. His forward-thinking leadership has positioned CBMHWC at the forefront of culturally competent care, particularly during times of social and healthcare disruptions.
Beyond program expansion, Dewayne’s commitment to community engagement and fundraising has been transformative. His entrepreneurial vision previously led to the creation of Atlanta’s only Black gay enclave—a community lounge blending celebration with purpose by offering free testing, harm reduction tools, medication pick-ups, and vaccine administration. This innovative model challenges stigma and redefines community-based healthcare access.
Rudolph H. Carn, President and Board Chair of CBMHWC, expressed excitement about Dewayne’s leadership, stating, “We are honored to welcome Dewayne Crowder as the new Executive Director. His visionary leadership, compassion, and dedication to health equity make him the ideal leader to guide our organization forward. We are confident that Dewayne will continue to strengthen CBMHWC’s impact and expand our reach within the community.”
Reflecting on his new role, Dewayne Crowder shared, “It is an honor to lead Carl Bean Men’s Health and Wellness Center during this pivotal time. I am committed to fostering a space where Black gay men and LGBTQIA+ individuals feel seen, valued, and supported. Inspired by Maya Angelou’s words, my mission is not merely to survive but to thrive—and to do so with passion, compassion, humor, and style. Together, we will lead with love, compassion, and grace.”
Dewayne Crowder’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for CBMHWC as the organization continues its mission to provide comprehensive, inclusive healthcare services. Under his guidance, CBMHWC will further its commitment to reducing health disparities and promoting holistic well-being for Black gay men and other at-risk populations.
